1st Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Patient Empowerment with Sensor Systems (AI4Empowerment'22)

Sofia, Bulgaria, 4 - 7 September, 2022

Committee

Currently, the use of sensors and mobile devices has been increasingly used and an increasing number of users. On the other hand, the use of artificial intelligence methods and the use of innovative applications that allow to promote the expansion for people with special characteristics presents itself as a challenge for science named computer science. It promotes the combination between computer science and fields, including medicine.

Recently, approaches for quantifying health emerged that rely on inexpensive sensor technologies. For example, the global positioning system (GPS), inertial measurement units (IMUs), and accelerometer sensors embedded in every smartphone facilitate monitoring different health aspects in older adults. Remarkably, smartphone use has been suggested by researchers and clinicians as a useful tool to monitor and improve patients’ health.

Additionally, patient empowerment is a focal point in healthcare evolution, to allow patients to manage their health and adapt to chronic diseases. Technological advancements play a central role in the promotion of patient empowerment by providing access and remote support that might contribute to overcome challenges of geographic location and promote equal access to healthcare.
